Most car rental companies in Romania require a credit card and block a deposit of 300 to 1,200 EUR. EziRent does not. Here is why that matters and why we are different.
The Problem with Credit Card Holds
When you rent from a traditional agency, they pre-authorize (block) a deposit on your credit card. This means:
- Your own money is frozen. That 800 EUR hold means you cannot use that money during your trip – even though you haven’t spent it.
- It can take 2-4 weeks to release. Even after returning the car in perfect condition, the hold lingers on your card, reducing your available credit.
- Exchange rate exposure. If your card is in a different currency (dollars, pounds), the hold amount fluctuates with exchange rates.
- Hard credit check risk. Some agencies run a soft credit check, which can temporarily affect your credit score.
- Not everyone has a credit card. Many young travelers, European visitors (where debit cards are the norm), and people who prefer not to use credit are excluded.

What If You Don’t Have Cash?
No problem. There are ATMs at Sibiu Airport, at every major bank in Sibiu, Alba Iulia, Sebes, and Cluj-Napoca. You can withdraw Romanian Lei from any international card. We recommend withdrawing enough for the rental fee + security deposit.
